Broken Past

No, no, no, she cried,
He fumbled in his pants and pulled out the change,
She was crying, no please no,
He placed a quarter to the slot,
it dropped to the ground,
It was hard to pick it up, slippery to the touch,
he could feel it but couldn't shove it home,
she struggled with him for a minute but it went in anyway,
No!.... she was sobbing,
He payed no attention to her and finished quickly.
He pulled the lever and shook the machine, clumsy oaf.
Instead of a Milky Way he found a box of lemon balls,
She was crying uncontrollably now,
you broke it forever she whispered through her tears.
It's one thing to break your own dreams,
but when you ruin another's dreams for a sweet taste of candy,
it often leaves a sour taste forever.
I cried alone with you when I found out.
I want you to know,
That broken machine is still full of sweets,
I hope someone fixed it for you,
so you can taste the sweetness you should have had that night.
